ORIGINS OF THE OLGA BEAT - A NEW WORLD BEAT. The Beat was a neighbourhood news rag lying on our kitchen counter at just the right time. I had been scouring my mind all morning to find the perfect word to fill the void between 'olga' and '.com' that wasn't already registered. I saw it and was instantly reminded of the Jack Kerouac poem, the Beat Generation. How did it go again? " ...and everything is going to the beat - It's the beat generation, it's the be-at, it's the beat to keep, it's the beat of the heart, it's being beat and down in the world and like oldtime lowdown and like in ancient civilizations the slave boatmen rowing galleys to a beat and servants spinning pottery to a beat...". And how do we beat the apathy, the cruelty, and the ignorance that pervades today? With a new world beat. One sober enough to find our way back to the promised land.

Olga, on the other hand, was a Russian woman I met on
a foreign dating site, and another, this time Ukranian woman, who contacted me on a Russia Bride site. The former, Olga Medvedev, was a divorced, down-to-earth, somewhat traditional,
blonde-haired dye-job, cutie with a commitment to staying in her home town of Cheboksary, Russia. The latter, Olga Olychenko, was a free-spirited bohemian with
a love of music and photography. She
was asexual and was looking for a gay boyfriend. Oddly enough, she took, however momentarily, interest in me. I had never much liked the name 'Olga'
before these two, but they seemed sincere.
Both a far cry from the usual 'come rescue me from this dreary place, my prince' Eastern-European sweetheart scam-jobs,
I corresponded with them, until one
day, 
they just stopped writing me back. For all I know they may have been the same person. Either way, the name stuck.
